Zimbabwe Nkenya
Nkenya has incorporated the sacred sounds of the mbira into original jazz-based music
for more than 30 years. “In his hands, the Mbira becomes a vibrant channel for
spirited, authentic jazz improvisations… using ancient traditions to forge music for today.
The mbira, often referred to as a ‘thumb piano,’ is in fact a multi-octave instrument
requiring more than thumbs to achieve its full potential.
In the years preceding his recent return to the St. Louis area, Nkenya was known as
one of New Mexico’s foremost creative musicians. The Nkenya ensembles Black Jazz
Culture, ZIYA, Contrabass Quartet and African Space Project were regularly featured
in venues throughout the state including the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe
and the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque.

Shaolin Lohan Pai Lion Dance Troupe

Thousands of years old! The lion dance is an important tradition in China and abroad. Usually the dance
is part of festivities like Chinese New Year, the openings of restaurants and weddings. If well-performed,
the lion dance is believed to bring luck and happiness. Lion Dance is considered a mandatory part of classical or
traditional Kung Fu. Those who practice Kung Fu are usually very good at the dance because the lion dance
utilizes the footwork, body movements, balance, and agility that is required in Kung Fu.
The Shaolin Lohan Pai Lion Dance Troupe has evolved throughout the past twenty-seven years and is considered
to be the most experienced, respected and sought-after demonstration team within the state of Missouri. The
team was formally known as the HuangSe' GeBei Xi'Tong's - Lion Dance and Demonstration Team (1997-2004 A.D.).
Prior to that, it was know as the Lohan Gung Fu Demo Team (1994-1997 A.D.) and before that, it was simply
known as the Lo'Han Group (1979-1994 A.D.).
As a 'Northern Kung Fu School', they specialize in the Northern Lions. They have the strength and leg speed
that is necessary for 'bold' lion dances. Due to this fact, their Southern Lion Dances are powerful,
acrobatic and extremely pleasurable to watch. Since the system tends to do a great deal of reaching with
normal techniques, they are more capable to reach-out further with the lions. They are also the only Troupe, in
the area, capable of performing the fantastic Dragon Dance properly. It is without question that the
Shaolin Lohan Pai Lion Dance Troupe is the most diverse, exciting and professional Lion Dance Troupe in Missouri!
Their teams have served countless respectable organizations with their duty, tradition, skill, professionalism,
punctuality and honor. Some of the Organizations that they have served, and continue to serve are the City and
County of Honolulu, the City of Springfield, Missouri, the Springfield Taiwanese Women's Association, the
UMR Students & Scholars Association, the City of Saint Louis, the St. Louis City Museum, the St. Louis Children's Aquarium,
the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Kansas City, Harrah's Casino - St. Louis, Ameristar Casino - St. Charles,
the City of Maryland Heights, the Asian American Business Association, the Worldways Children's Museum and many more.
They also serve as the only demonstration team for both Oriental Martial Arts Society (OMAS), Inc. within the
Continental United States and the Midwest Martial Arts Council. The Shaolin Lohan Pai Lion Dance Troupe has been
recognized as one of the "TOP 10 Dragon & Lion Dance Teams in the U.S.A." !

psychotronics is a four-piece musical group living in the moment. no overdubs
or edits. brutally honest conversational playing by guys ready to leap from the musical
precipice- and fly. psychotronics molds the sounds of rock, pop, jazz and
psychedelia, chews it up and spits it out for your enjoyment. the music can be pensive,
exciting, cacophonus, simple, melodic or dissonant ... and then we leap into the next song.
branching out from a lineage of excellent St. Louis bands- Electric sheep,
Funkabilly, Plaid Cattle, Go, Dog. Go! Ticket to the Beatles- psychotronics
have decidedly loosened their firm grip on song form and freed themselves to explore
those musical places not normally visited yet strangely familiar to even the
freshest set of ears.
drawing upon influences from the grand tradition of early Weather Report,
King Crimson, The Stooges, Miles Davis, Aphrodite's Child, Gong and Funkadelic
to modern day ground breakers, psychotronics can take you places you
have loved all your life as well as places you will love as soon as you arrive.
we don't let a little thing like lyrics get in your way, either.
... and all you have to do is listen.

Blues Rock with a hint of Floyd
Logos was formed in January 2005. The band began writing music immediately and
hasn't stopped yet. Logos plays all the classic rock and roll styles you've been
waiting to hear again. The band's sound is a fusion of Floyd and Zeppelin with
a hint of jazz and blues. All the ingredients come together for an incredible
sound that will knock your socks off ! This three piece band both entertains
and amazes audiences. Although still very young, each of the band's members
is a sensational musician. Arrangements and lyrics are very tight, especially
for their age.
Winners of the Exposure Battle of the Bands at Mississippi Nights on April 23, 2005.
